Concert Being Staged To Raise Funds For PHIL LYNOTT Statue

April 2, 2005

Eddie McIlwaine of The Belfast Telegraph has issued the following report:

A concert to raise funds to put up a statue in Dublin to the late guitar legend Phil Lynott of THIN LIZZY is to be staged in the Spring and Airbrake Club at Ormeau Avenue, Belfast — at the special request of the dead star's mother Philomena.

It takes place on Friday, April 29, arranged by devoted Lynott fan Speedo Wilson, the guitar player in FLASH HARRY and will feature the THIN LIZZY tribute band TINN LIZZY whose other members are Johnny Conlon (vocals and bass),Willie Byrne (guitar) and drummer Julian Watson.

"When I was young I used to sit up all night at home practising THIN LIZZY songs and play them for my mum next morning," recalled Wilson today. "So this concert means a lot to her and to me.

"I once toured with THIN LIZZY in their support band SWEET SAVAGE back in 1981."

The statue is to be erected next August near Grafton Street at a ceremony when all the LIZZY hits like "Whiskey in the Jar", "The Boys are Back in Town", "Dancing in the Moonlight", "Sarah" and "Still In Love With You" will be heard once more.

"It's going to be an emotional occasion," said Speedo.

"But so is this gig to raise funds in Belfast."
